Ben Hughes

National Physical Laboratory

Ben Hughes is a Principal Research Scientist at the National Physical Laboratory (NPL), the UK?s national metrology institute. He has worked at NPL for over 25 years developing instruments techniques for dimensional metrology ranging from the nano-scale to large volume and from 1 D to 6D. He currently leads a growing team with research interests include developing high-accuracy, traceable (to international measurement standards), self-calibrating and flexible (in deployment) coordinate measurement systems. In addition, he is interested in developing simple methods of performance verification and calibration of portable coordinate measurement systems like laser trackers and laser scanners. He is the author of over 20 scientific papers and named inventor on 5 patents.
