This presentation will give a program overview for the Metrology program of The Apprentice School located at Newport News Shipbuilding, a Division of Huntington Ingalls Industries.
During this five-year apprenticeship, candidates are selected from a pool of applicants through the Apprentice School’s Advanced Shipyard Operations Programs. Each individual has completed the required academic program and approximately two years of experience in a waterfront trade. Apprentices are assigned to the Metrology Solutions Department for three additional years and earn an Associate’s Degree. Metrology Apprentices will perform industrial measurement surveys and detailed analysis of manufactured structures, components, and assemblies for aircraft carriers and submarines.
