History of the Measurement Zone

Since 2010, the former measurement study, now measurement zone, has been at the forefront of the Coordinate Metrology Society Conference. Each year the activities evolve and develop into something new, educational and fun. Thanks to our sponsors and volunteers, the impact and importance of this activity now plays a pivotal role in the growth of the conference. The plans for the future of this activity now spreads across both a ‘Measurement Zone and Education Zone’.

Purpose of "The Zones"

The purpose of the zones is to provide knowledge and understanding to support the metrology education and practical methodology requirements for specialists, technicians, managers, certified operators and programmers. A range of activities in both the Measurement and Educational zones do not require prior knowledge, (although this would be advantageous). We also cater to the experienced by offering the opportunity to engage in an educational quiz and a practical competition.

What to Expect at CMSC 2016

The Measurement Zone (MZ)

This zone will again have a measurement competition and behavioral activities to address best practices with portable metrology equipment.

This will be made up of three different zones:
  • Zone 1 will encompass multiple equipment types to show techniques, and best practices.
  • Zone 2 will host a robot for automated measurement programming.
  • Zone 3 will be the competition zone where registered users will be invited to participate in a defined task using portable measuring equipment on an automobile chassis (Body in White) kindly provided by VW and sponsored by Metrologic.
The Zone 3 competition will be held on Tuesday and Wednesday. There are 26 available slots to participate in the competition, these spots are limited and require you to sign up ahead of time on our website (http://www.cmsc.org/2016measurementzone).

We encourage advanced laser tracker operators to participate in the competition. All participants will receive a participation certificate and be entered to win the grand prize announced at the Wednesday night Banquet.

The Education Zone (EZ)

This additional zone will be made up of one area covering Workshops and eLearning. The Jeopardy game will return bigger and better covering 4 sessions over 2 days.

The first 3 sessions will be classed as heats and each winning team will compete in a grand finale to be overall champions of CMSC 2016.

Basically our conference finals followed by our own Superbowl!! The Education zone will also host a GD&T hands on workshop, along with two presentations. A Laser Tracker Best Practices presentation and a Shop floor Metrology & Technology presentation. The eLearning will be available focusing on metrology education. The EZ is being sponsored by Creaform.
