Women In Metrology Survey Answers...

1.  Tell us about the accomplishments that helped shape your growth/career.  Was there a specific project that influenced your decision to join or continue down the path of metrology?

I think what has kept me in the field is my interest in the new and improved technology of the metrology equipment. I never stop learning in this field which keeps it interesting to me.

2.  What was your journey like to get you to where you are now? Was there a particular challenge you had to overcome?

When I first started as an Applications Engineer, I did not have any prior experience in metrology. I had to overcome the stereo type of a young lady in the field trying to help people that were in the field far longer than me. There were many times I learned on the job site, I kept my head high and kept moving forward. I now have been in the field for over 17 years.

3.  What is your favorite aspect of your role in metrology?

My favorite part is being in this “small world” of metrologists. Many people that start in metrology do not leave the field. I have met people from all over the world and many have become good friends. It’s always fun catching up with people that I have not seen in years.

4.  What is the most critical aspect of your role?

In my current role, I am responsible for maintaining our training material and making sure that that the customers and internal employees have the most up to date training material that can be provided. It is important to stay up to date with the ever-changing equipment and software used.

5.  Who was one of your mentors as you pursued your education and career?

I have had many mentors throughout my career. Most have been my supervisors, co-workers and managers.

6.  What advice would you give to others who are considering a STEM career?

You can not go wrong with a STEM career. Math and science will always be around and will be needed for new technology and new products.

7.  When did you get your first chance to work in the Metrology field?

2 years after college I was given the opportunity to be an Applications Engineer and I have been in the field ever since.

8.  Describe the value that your efforts have delivered for the systems, products and processes.

Throughout my career I have been given the opportunity to demonstrate, support and train users on different metrology equipment and software. Showing people the possibilities and the advantages of the different metrology hardware and/or related software is rewarding. I have really enjoyed being the instructor of many classroom courses over the years.

9.  Is there anything additional you would like to add?
