Women In Metrology Survey Answers...

1.  Tell us about the accomplishments that helped shape your growth/career.  Was there a specific project that influenced your decision to join or continue down the path of metrology?

I have worked in aircraft manufacturing for 12 years. Three years ago I got a development opportunity to participate in a rotation program. I rotated into the measurement group and love it so much I became a permeant member of the team.

2.  What was your journey like to get you to where you are now? Was there a particular challenge you had to overcome?

I first started out as a mechanic then a quality inspector. The biggest challenge I have had to overcome was myself. I would doubt my abilities as a Metrologist; but with the support of my wonderful team mates I have become highly confident in myself and my work.

3.  What is your favorite aspect of your role in metrology?

I love the support and troubleshooting. When one of my teammates are having a hard time and I can go in to help get the job done it makes me feel great.

4.  What is the most critical aspect of your role?

I preform checks and calibrations on our measurement equipment, if I make a mistake it will waste valuable time and cause errors when assisting the build of tooling.

5.  Who was one of your mentors as you pursued your education and career?

I have actually looked up to my teammates most of all. All of my teammates are exceptional in their way but do not shy admitting their short comings.

6.  What advice would you give to others who are considering a STEM career?

GO FOR IT! I have never had a more fulfilling career. STEM careers are full of some of the most kind, determined and smartest people I have ever had the honor of knowing. There is always no man or woman left behind everyone is more that willing to share the knowledge they have.

7.  When did you get your first chance to work in the Metrology field?

About 3 years ago I got the opportunity to rotate from Quality inspection on the floor to Boeing research and development.

8.  Describe the value that your efforts have delivered for the systems, products and processes.

I have contributed to products that improve efficiency and safety during the build. My knowledge of the floor has been a valuable asset when integrating Metrology into production processes.
