The Lockheed Martin Aeronautics facility in Fort Worth, Texas, serves as the primary production hub for the F-35 Lightning II, the world’s most advanced multi-role fighter jet. Known officially as Air Force Plant 4, this massive complex spans over 600 acres and features a mile-long assembly line. The facility is a marvel of modern industrial engineering, utilizing high-tech automation, robotics, and advanced data analytics to assemble the three different variants of the aircraft for the U.S. military and international allies. It is one of the largest manufacturing footprints in the United States, employing thousands of high-skilled engineers, technicians, and mechanics who work in a highly secure, climate-controlled environment to ensure the precision required for stealth technology.
The production process in Fort Worth is a global effort, as the facility integrates major components manufactured by partner nations and suppliers from across the globe. Sections of the aircraft, such as the wings from the UK or the center fuselage from Northrop Grumman, arrive at the plant to be joined on the pulse assembly line. This line moves the aircraft through various stations at a steady "takt" time, where systems, electronics, and the powerful F135 engines are installed. Beyond assembly, the Fort Worth site also houses sophisticated testing labs and pilot training centers, making it the central nervous system for the entire F-35 enterprise. Its economic impact is significant, supporting a vast supply chain and maintaining North Texas's reputation as a premier global aerospace corridor.

Bell's Manufacturing Technology Center (MTC) in Fort Worth, Texas, is a 140,000-square-foot facility for testing and refining advanced manufacturing processes for future aircraft, particularly for the U.S. Army's Future Vertical Lift (FVL) program, including the V-280 Valor. Opened in 2020, the MTC serves as a proving ground for new technologies in rotor and drive systems, final assembly, and other core manufacturing areas, aiming to lower costs and lead times for next-generation rotorcraft. A new, larger factory is also being built nearby to support the production of the V-280 Valor, which will replace the Black Hawk helicopter.
